The 500 Calorie Diet - how safe is it?
Even so, it tends to be extremely popular. The reason for the popularity of course, is that you lose weight fast. Low-calorie diets abound among people who are looking for quick weight loss. But even among those low-calorie diets the 500 calories per day diet is in the lower part of the spectrum.

First, for a definition. In order for a diet to be considerd low in energy there is the arbitrary cutoff point of 1,200 calories per day. Anything below that is considered to be a low-calorie diet.
Obviously the idea of a low-calorie diet is to lose weight fast, but to lose the weight fast - regain the weight and lose again can be very dangerous and this type of diet should always be carefully planned with a dietitian or your doctor because this is what happens when you are on a low-calorie diet such as this.
It's well known that the best way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you eat. You can do this by burning more or less what you eat, Your body needs a certain number of calories just to exist. And personally, it is hard for me to believe that anyone could exist on 500 calories per day.
If you are not eating enough, the theory is that your energy needs are supported by the calories from the fat stored in the body. The problem is, our bodies are very smart. It just will not continue to burn the same number of calories.
Your body doesn't know that you are on a diet. You think you are dying of hunger so to help keep you alive, it will cut way back on the number of calories that it uses. Your metabolism slows down and begins to eat away your muscle mass
Over a long-term, this is disastrous.Muscles burn more calories than your fat, so if you lose it, not only does it have a negative effect on the body but also affects the ability to hold the weight in the future.
The 500 Calorie diet, as one of the diets for quick weight loss - works but only for a short period. The negative effects can vary depending on your body type, height, activity level, and overall health and gender. 500 calories per day may be enough for some people for a short period.
For the vast majority of us, especially if we are carrying extra weight, eating only 500 calories per day is literally starving our bodies. Most likely you consume 2000 to 5,000 (or more) calories per day. A sudden fall to 500 calroies will immediately move your body into starvation mode.
So, your metabolism slows way down in order to conserve energy. Our bodies are very adaptable. In a very short time you will learn to survive on 500 calories per day. However, if continued over a long period you'll go into a coma and die.
Unfortuantely as soon as your diet is over, and you go back to your old eating habits - like we all do - you will have a sudden gain in weight. In fact, you can gain more weight than you had before you stated the diett.
Diets for quick weight loss just don't work. Also, because you lost so much muscle mass, it makes it much more difficult to secure the weight in the future.
The most effective method of determining a healthy, livable daily calorie level, is by using a BMR/AMR calculator.
It will tell you how many calories are needed to support your health and your lifestyle. Once you know how many calories you need to maintain your weight, then you can subtract 500 calories per day, and you have one of the ideal diets for quick weight loss success.
Obviously the size and body mass of women differ dramatically from that of men. That means they need a different number of calories to survive. While the average male can eat 1500-1600 calories a day, the average woman needs to consume 1200-1300 calories per day. Again, it is wise to consult your physician before starting any diet as safety has to come first.
In the realm of diets for quick weight loss, the 500 calorie per day diet is very popular. It will work to help you lose weight, but can be very dangerous - and your weight loss is temporary, at best.
You should never cut back that dramatically on your calories without the constant monitoring and supervision of a doctor.

Stay On Track With Your Diet - diet myths revealed
We all wanted to start a diet at one time or another. We have also been good at the excuses for not starting that diet. The biggest fear that seems to take hold of us all is our self-doubt that we will not succeed.

There are many opinions about counting calories and losing weight. There are also many myths associated with dieting. Some of which will be discussed here.
The first myth noted is that one should dispose of as many calories from your daily diet as possible. Nothing could be further from the truth.
This type of diet will cause the body into starvation mode, go to the muscles and cause degradation of the first institutions. This is an extremely unhealthy way to lose weight.
In our quest for a slimmer waistline we face the myth of eating one type of food all day, every day, until we lose the desired weight. There are many types of fad diets including but not limited to: the Grapefruit diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet, the The Food Combining diet, the Frutarian diet, and more.
I saw them talking about the Hot Dog diet in the news the other day. These are called dieting fads and have caused many dieting binges over the years. Because hot dogs contain many bi-products I would venture to say that that is a very unhealthy fad diet.
Straying from your diet is another myth that causes us to stress. Side note: the stress is known to cause weight gain. Here is the good news; straying from your diet is ok. We all deserve to treat ourselves occasionally.
Now this does not mean to eat all you can on a diet, but you can have the piece of birthday cake on your daughters birthday and you are not required to spendi five hours in the gym to make up for it. If you do stray simply adjust your calorie intake for the next day.
If we are dieting that means we are eating healthy and watching our caloric intake on a regular basis. So, unless you eat one gallon of Hagen Daz ice cream 2 or 3 times a week you will be alright.
It is also okay to have a small snack before bedtime provided it is a healthy one, rather than starving until your next meal. Make sure it is something healthy like a celery stick with peanut butter or something similar.
A good way to keep hunger at bay is to eat small meals throughout the day.
Several small meals along with some healthy snacks will keep you from overeating because you've been hungry all day. Start off slow, four smaller meals instead of three bigger meals.
You've heard people tell you not to eat dairy products because they're too fattening. Europeans eat lots of dairy products and they are large consumers of cheese. Additionally the dairy products contain nutrients our bodies need.
There are also studies that show an increase in successful weight loss in those who have consumed and kept milk in their diet. Just remember to keep it low-fat and in moderation.
A healthy, well balanced diet (a little splurging included) and exercise can work wonders for your diet success!

Five Simple Dieting Tips
Most people understand that the word "diet" means over a period of time, if you limit what you eat, you will lose weight.

Instead you might want to consider the word diet as a lifestyle choice of being in command of what you eat. If you can make the commitment to changing your lifestyle and what you eat you will be on your way to success.
You can do this by selecting one of the following 'choose to do' techniques. Pick something you think you can accomplish and do it today. When you get bored with it or it becomes a habit move onto the next 'choose to do' tip.
Eat small, regular amounts. Unless you eat at constant, regular intervals throughout the day, you might well disrupt your blood sugar and insulin levels. This can lead to more fat storage and metabolic rate.
Either of these factors can lead to additional weight gain. To create your own diet program you should make it a habit to eat something every two hours. Bear in mind that eating small amounts every two hours might actually help you regain control of your eating habits.
For this reason, it is important not to skip breakfast. Research shows that people who eat breakfast eat less during the rest of the day, Skipping breakfast is not recommended because it helps start your metabolism in addition to helping it.
With main meals reduce portion sizes. Begin to make it a habit of watching your portion sizes. Whatever portion size you currently have, reduce it by five percent. In fact, this may make no difference to how full you feel, but it will influence the amount of calories you take in. Also by doing this consciously, you'll begin to feel better as you are taking control.
Clean your teeth after every main meal. One could take this into account, for two reasons: first, this marks activities of cleaning the teeth at the end of the meal and prevents you from eating more, and secondly, the cleaning of the teeth changes the taste in the mouth as soon as you brush and this is a strong signal that it's time to stop eating.
Work that body! You probably know this already but studies show that any additional exercise plays a vital part in diet weight loss. The secret is something small that you are good in...something as simple as the running up and down the stairs. Find something that works for you that you enjoy doing and go do it.
Four bites and you are out! We all eat what we know will not help our weight loss because they are usually things that are delicious!
So if you have the desire to eat something that is not necessarily healthy, keep in mind that bite, Taste the first bite as 100%, the second bite as 50% the third bite as 25% and 0% in the fourth bite.
That's good for the reason that you get all the 'sugar hit' benefit from the first four bites - anything after that you won't really taste and might simply put on weight. It is much better to save the rest of the chips, cookies, cakes, chocolate and so on until the next time you feel the urge for something that you deem is not the healthiest thing for your body.
So there you have it. Five effortless no diet weight loss tips that will help you to lose weight without ever having to go on a traditional diet.

TRUE AND FALSE. Certain types of carbohydrates make you gain some extra pounds of saggy belly fat and some do not. If a diet plan proposes not to eat carbohydrates, it is total rubbish. Carbohydrates are essential to our daily lives and activities, and you MUST consume carbohydrates no matter what if you still need to walk, cook and fetch your children from school. Eating no carbs will not only decrease productivity in whatever we do, but also is not at all healthy.
Below are the list of healthy carbohydrates for you to choose from and unhealthy carbohydrates you need to avoid:
Unhealthy Carbohydrates: Flour, sugar, sweetened dairy products, and especially CHIPS. Say no to Doritos, if you want healthy food.

Real People Do Not Diet
Stop dieting in order to lose weight. It works! You should not go to the gym or join Weight Watchers or stop eating what you love - and still lose weight! It is not necessary to have a formal way to weight loss success.

Sad to say, we just don't have time in our schedule to make exercise a regular benefit. Instead, take exercise into your life - only remain active with children, family, friends and life in general.
The key here is to 'stay active'. Use the stairs, park further from the Mall. These are just a few of the little things that will burn a few more calories.
The following type of regular exercise burns about four calories per minute: gymnastics, cycling (slow), gardening (light), golf (social), household work, group dancing, table tennis, tennis (doubles) and walk (slowly).
You can have successful weightloss without the latest diet, joining a diet center or eating packaged diet foods. Here is the obvious truth: real people, not a diet.
Dieting is not normal. It is not sustainable. It doesn't work over a lifetime.
To lose weight and keep it off, you must quit the diet and change your eating habits. Of course if you would like to use a supplement to help you get on the fast-track, there is nothing wrong with getting a little help to start you on your way.
Although there is no single blueprint for a healthy balanced diet, there are a few basic principles that are likely to be part of most healthy eating-plans:
Include foods from all food groups. If you are a vegetarian or otherwise advised by your doctor, then your daily diet includes a variety of foods, ideally from all major food groups such as meat, dairy products, fruits, vegetables and fats.
A healthy body can lose weight faster than a malnourished body. So it is to your advantage to remember the fact that there are 22 vitamins and minerals that are necessary to control our weight and metabolism. The most important ones are: Vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, Vitamin C, choline, inositol, chromium, manganese and zinc.
Avoid foods like donuts and snacks, which are typically high in fat or high in sugar (or both) and high salt content Refined white flour foods are high in unhealthy carbohydrate. Bakery products contain trans fats - now considered harmful saturated animal fats.
Avoiding does not mean never treating yourself; just be aware that these are empty (no food value) calories. My family for many years has referred to these types of foods as foodless-foods.
Achieving or maintaining a healthy weight is largely (but not only) a matter of controlling your caloric intake. This doesn't mean carrying around a calorie-calculator everywhere you go. But you should be aware of the calorie content of food on a regular basis, as well as your calorie needs.
One highly effective strategy for maintaining calorie-awareness is to keep a food diary and a wise investment would be a fooid scale. Write down everything you eat and drink, together with the corresponding calories, then add your score.
Do this for 14 days, and I guarantee it will improve your calorie control.

Most of us recognize that some of the foods we eat actually makes us gain weight. However, we often-times lack the willpower to stay away from them. But if you are going to lose weight it is high time that we all exercise some sort of self-control. When I say WE, I am eluding to most of the people In the United States because we are generally an over-weight and often obese society.
Some people are forced to diet due to health issues. Some of these health issues are ailments such as diabetes, high blood pressure or other health issues that require a special diet. These types of diets are not necessarily about weight loss.
However, a dieting diet is about losing weight. When you eat the wrong foods and have a sedentary lifestyle the food is invariably deposited in areas of our bodies where we do not want it.
That food is then converted into the energy that it was meant to provide, but when we don't use that energy, unfortunately it turns to fat. If you decide to lose those extra pounds on a diet diet, everything must change including your attitude towards success.
You have to change your habits - not only your eating habits, but when you eat and how you eat. I had a very bad habit of eating at night. The best thing you can do is to eat before 7PM and then walk for about 15 minutes to help digest your food which also helps you sleep better and walking is the best exercise yet.
With a diet diet you can eat many foods that are tasty while trying to lose weight. Most importantly, you do not have to starve yourself in the process. There's nothing you really have to sacrifice, you just have to change a little.
Many peope fail to realize that soda pop as well as high sodium intake bloasts the fat cells. You can eat of lot of the foods that you desire by making small changes in other areas. For one, you can eliminate sugary soda from your diet and replace it with natural fruit juice and sprinkle less salt.
Remember, your target weight can be a bit heavier than the recommended body weight, and you can still be in good shape. Afterall, muscle weighs more than fat. And the reality is that body shapes are different. Weight and weight loss should not be our only measure of our fitness.
The idea is to be sure we eat healthy and take advantage of the way food is meant to work for us - not against us! A dieting diet will create a slimmer and healthier you which will make you feel better.
